Architects, urban planners, landscape architects and site representatives celebrate in Linz all awarded projects of the three Austrian Europan14 sites and the exhibition opening of the E14 competition.
The Forum of Cities and Juries is the meeting at the European scale of the sites and juries representatives around a shortlist of the projects established by the national juries.

EUROPAN14 SITE WORKSHOP

Site Representatives of all Europan14 sites in Austria discussed together the potentials and challenges of the sites in relation to the topic ´productive cities´.
The department MD21- City of Vienna and Europan Österreich organised a start-workshop and invited the winning team Blaž Babnik Romaniuk (SI), Anna Kravcova (SI), Dušan Stupar (SI) – PUBLICQUARTIER and the short-listed team Claudiu Silvestru (RO), Diana Silvestru (RO) - INTEGRATING CLUSTERS / INCREASING DIVERSITY to discuss the goals and future steps of the coming implementation process.
The publication presents 40 international projects from two competition rounds for nine locations in six Austrian towns and cities: Amstetten, Bruck/Mur, Graz, Linz, St. Pölten and Vienna—six first prizes, nine second prizes, five special mentions and 20 shortlisted projects. In addition, Jens Metz—an architect and urban planner in Berlin and a member of the technical committee of Europan—reflects on the concept of adaptability as an innovative driving force for the development of European cities.
Europan, in partnership with the Junta de Extremadura and the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Extremadura - COADE, organised a Forum for the E13 winning teams (winners and runners-up) and the E13 and E14 site representatives.
European seminar meeting with the National Secretariats for the classification of Europan14 sites on the topic of productive cities which will be launched in February 2017.

Opening! Thirteen years of work performed by the Spanish offices PLAYstudio (Vicente Iborra Pallarés and Ivan Capdevila Castellanos) + YES studio (Javier L. Yáñez Molina), in collaboration with the local partner Mischek ZT, and the social housing developer ÖSW, finished in a ceremony in which the new tenants received the keys of their new houses.
Europan Österreich invited the winning team 04401 ARCHITECTS (IT) and the runner-up team Nela Kadic & Vera Seriakov (AT) to discuss together with BAI Bauträger Austria Immobilien GmbH a possible strategy for a future process of the projects.
The project Lastenstraße-MALAHOF by the Norwegian architecture office MALARCHITECTURE (Mirza Mujezinovic, Anders Sletbak, Jonas Løland, Minna Riska, Paul Henry Henn, Synøve Flobak, Mari Isdal) is under construction: In May 2015, the foundation work started. The completion and the launching ceremony on the roof top swimming deck are planned in June 2017.
Europan Österreich invited the Runner-up team KUNEOFFICE and the four preselected teams to participate in a workshop. Together with the city of Bruck/Mur and the Federal State of Styria the teams discussed the basis for a strategy to start an implementation process in Bruck/Mur.

300 international participants of the forum of cities and juries visit three Europan Implementations in Wien. Architects and clients give a short lecture and guide through their project. We thank all architects and clients for their engagement!
The forum of cities and juries is the meeting at the European scale of the sites and juries representatives around a shortlist of the projects established by the national juries.
We are happy to announce that the masterplan is approved by the City of Vienna! Arenas Basabe Palacios Arquitectos present the story of the collaborative planning process as a comic!

MEETING OF SECRETARIATS

We explored new projects along the shorelines of Helsinki by boat, cruised around some islands and enjoyed the finish midnight sun. In our meeting we started to organise the upcoming E13 Forum of Cities and Juries in November 2015.

Europan at the Committee of the Regions in Brussels to meet with members of the European Commission and European Parliament. An interesting meeting of the delegation of all Europan Secretariats and the Committee of the Regions to see how we can collaborate in the future.

The project ‘GARTENSTADT 2.0′ - development of GARTENHOF, first prize of EUROPAN10 in Wien - by Arenas Basabe Palacios has been honoured by the prestigious Swiss Holcim Foundation as an example of sustainable urbanism. The proposal was selected between more than 6000 projects presented in 152 countries. In this fourth edition of Holcim Awards held in Moscow, ‘GARTENSTADT’ received the Bronze award of the European region.
In Paris we discussed the classification of the new EUROPAN13 sites. We are looking forward to the debates of the upcoming E12-13 Inter-Sessions Forum end of September in Pavia (IT).

Europan 12 is still running and yet it is already time to prepare the theme of the coming Europan 13 competition. To define the subject of the next session, Europan decided to launch a call for contributions towards the young professionals.
