INTEGRATING CLUSTERS / INCREASING DIVERSITY

TEAM STATEMENT

“To improve local identity and encourage animation and activity, the proposal at hand suggests the implementation of social infrastructure at Schrödingerplatz and along Siebeckstraße-Donaustadtstraße into a cultural/creative hotspot. This cultural cluster will complement the cinema and entertainment center and define - altogether with the retail cluster of a more extrovert Donau Zentrum and the business and service cluster of Forum Donaustadt – a thoroughly diverse new urban center. Through its functions and the different interventions the new cultural cluster addresses one of the main attractions of Vienna: the culture of pleasure.

For developing the cultural cluster the spatial program is extended by several functions among which:

- a guest house serves the nearby University of Veterinary Medicine but also the universities in the inner city through the metro line;

- a new Museum of Everyday Life (MEL) as a further branch of the Vienna City Museum attracts tourists and visitors;

- an ecumenical center to join the present and future inhabitants of different cultural backgrounds of Donaustadt.

The result is an animated public space which provides different routes for slow motion and high speed cycling and interweaves them with the public and individual transportation. By addressing, emphasizing and reflecting a vivid community the proposed infrastructure integrates the three urban clusters and defines the new identity of Kagran.”
