LIMINAL CITY

TEAM STATEMENT
 
"A series of events which act as triggers for different transformations that will form Kagran of 2050. Each event defines a threshold between two phases through typological mechanisms and the involved actors. Urban projects require the consideration of intermediate phases, consolidating scenarios, evaluating results and oportunities with an outlook on the future. The liminal city elevates the urban realm, which helps to liberate participation and actions of the citizens to democratize the potential of the city.

Social strategy:
- Urban Workshop: Temporary structures host urban laboratories, which shorten the distance between the city and the user.
- Urban Pioneers: Active actors attracted by low costs and new oportunities, who colaborate to provide a new identity.
- Trial and error. Learning from each experience, to evaluate the results and draw conclusions.
- The best of all worlds: The project collects successfull experiences and events from the city of Vienna.
- The event as a planning tool.

Economic Strategy:
The shoping center as an funding tool: temporary cession of public space. Gradual increase of investment over the time.

Urban strategy:
- The Magic Carpet. An intelligent public space, characterized by the coexistence of cars, pedestrians and cyclists. Unified by the type of pavement.
- The Urban Park. The project uses the existing, unused green surface, diverting fast traffic towards the south.
- Redefining Wiener Block. The project proposes the construction over time of an alternative block, reorganizing different elements, increasing density."
