BLACK SWAN

TEAM STATEMENT

“Black swan - an urban intervention. The south-eastern part of the city of Bruck is dominated by large infrastructural lanes and has a lack of spatial structure and clarity.
It is not intended to only occupy the europan site with a building but also to focus on a concrete visionary approach for the city of Bruck by an urban intervention at large scale.

Black swan hast the aim to act as a mediator and generator.

The idea is to leave the disruptive and separating impact of the infrastructure behind. The linear element defines the city’s border to nature as well as it creates a link to the river Mur. The unvalued eastern areas of the city will receive better accessibility and come into reach. The river Mur and black swan establish the borders for future development. Contrary to classical urban sprawl or radial growth the starting point for a future evolvement is being defined. At the europan site - the starting point - the project is grounded and well linked to the street level. Unlike to the urban part, in the adjacent eastern parts topography and nature will stay untouched.

The final part is the intersection with the river Mur. There one can have a glance at the Mur valley. South of the swan pure natural space is contemplated.

The swan has to be seen as a bar that is its own city quarter with mixed uses. The bar is grouped in 3 interrelated realms. strong urban context, infrastructure zone, nature & river.”
